The Directorate of Government Examinations(DGE)
emerged as an independent body in Feburary 1975. The DGE has 7 regional offices
at Madurai,Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Tirunelveli , Chennai, Cuddalore and Vellore.
It conducts academic stream examination in academic fields as well as various
vocational stream examinations. DGE is conducting exams for more than 15 lakh
students every year. Private school students are also permitted to appear for
